A beautiful 1879 better date liberty head double eagle gold piece graded AU 55 by NGC. This coin holds a strong strike with very richly golden toned surfaces. This is a scarcer date to the series and becomes extremely expensive in mid-grade mint state grade levels. We have ever only offered a few of this particular date.
This Philadelphia Mint coin holds a very low mintage of only 207,600. Of this mintage, the PCGS Coin Facts estimates that 1,850 have survived in all grades today. It is one of only 73 graded About Uncirculated 55 by NGC.
