    Description

From my WW1 collection I offer a cast zinc medal on the sinking of the French cruiser Leon Gambetta which was torpedoed and sunk by the Austrian submarine U-5 in the Strait of Atranto April 27, 1915 with a loss of 552 of her crew along with all the officers. The Gambetta was top of the line cruiser of the French navy and was sunk by the U-5 which fired 2 torpedoes both of which exploded quickly sinking the ship. A fine addition to a WW1 medal collection.
