    Description

For sale is a Henri Selmer “K-Modified” LARGE BORE Bb Cornet from the Byron Autrey estate! This was purchased from the estate back in early March of 2020 and was lightly used since then. Overall, in great condition for being made sometime around 1963 (rough estimate on the year, based on K-Modified serial number). Reason for selling is I have another long model cornet that better suits my current needs.
This cornet was modified by Byron Autrey (more like “A-Modified” ha!) all throughout, such as the OEM mouthpipe was changed out with a silver-plated copper Pilczuk leadpipe (reads 45-53_C; .345” venturi to an exiting mouthpipe bore of .453” [telescoping to the .468” bore];“C” stands for “copper”, not the key of the instrument); there was movement/adding of bracing (x4 braces on valve cluster - x2 on upper 1st valve, x2 on upper 3rd valve); and also there is an including 3rd slide stop rod and nut to keep the 3rd slide from falling out. The valve slides and pistons actuate very well!
The pistons have been nickel-plated and honed into the casings by Byron from long ago (folks can tell of his valve fitting “marks” on the pistons in the pictures), and they still hold great amounts of compression. Includes nickel-silver Selmer valve guides installed, and a bag of extra Selmer plastic guides and other Selmer metal guides, as well.
This Henri Selmer cornet comes with a conical large bore of .468” and it plays great! Probably one of the best sounding LB long model cornets I’ve ever played. It plays very well in tune and has a beautiful core to the overall tone and sound—due to the help of the larger bore and the copper leadpipe.
The 4.73” (says 4-3/4” on Selmer ad) yellow-brass bell has a side-seam that runs underneath the valve braces, and also has a steel wire that sits inside of the extra, folded-over bell gauge material. In other words, this cornet can project well when it needs to!
Includes the extra valve guides, a vintage Selmer valve oil bottle (with some original contents), and a case—all of these will be bubble wrapped and properly packaged for S&H unless there is a requested local pickup. No mouthpiece included. Thanks for looking!
