Klepper Aerius II

Description

I bought this unit in the mid-1990's from someone who's family bought it new in the 1980's. Mice had chewed some holes in the foredeck canvas while they had it stored. I made the chevron shaped canvas section to cover the damage. There is also a small hole at the right rear of the coaming, which I never repaired. The hull bottom is still flexible and any damage is limited to minor scrapes and scratches. I had not assembled the boat for a few years and was very pleased with the hull bottom. Neither sponson leaks down overnight. The canvas color is still bright, a tribute to Klepper quality. I was always careful to limit UV exposure between uses.
Partial Sail Rig: I enjoyed the boat for a few years and modified a Folbot sail rig to fit it. Sadly, the mast and sail were lost during two ensuing household moves. Sunfish sail rigs work well. I worked the rudder via a wooden rod that I retained via a loop I sewed in the back canvas. There is another rudder (I never installed) that can work with foot pedals and cables (never installed). The leeboard mount is very secure on the boat and can also serve for mounting stabilizing floats for anyone wanting to do some standup fly fishing.
This Klepper is sound and needs to go to someone who will use it. There are years of use left in the hull, despite the mouse damage. I have no paddles to sell with it. Included are two carrying bags for the frames and hull and a large duffel for the long frame pieces.
