The Marula tree is a medium-sized dioecious tree, indigenous to the Miombo woodlands of Southern and West Africa. Considered one of Africa’s botanical treasures, the Marula tree has a long history in African culture. The raw materials for the oil are harvested and pressed by community collectives of mostly women. Semi-solid at ambient temperatures, immersion in a hot-water bath will bring it to a liquid state.
