Description
Rare Conn Victor Model 86A Cornet - A Vintage GEM in EXCELLENT+ Condition. This instrument is in AMAZING condition considering that it was manufactured some time between 1916 and 1924 and took two students (mother and daughter) through their school band program. The valve plating is very good and they function straight and true with good compression. See Picture #6
This is a Bb/A Cornet. It is pitched in Bb but has a special long tuning slide and a stop device that allows it to be dropped down to play functionally as a Cornet in A, which was often done for opera and theater orchestras. It DOES NOT, however, have the mechanism that automatically adjusted the valve slides when it was switched between Bb and A.
There is also a "Micro-Tune" device in perfect working condition. See Pictures #2 and #3
The instrument is engraved in wonderful detail and the finish is almost all intact. Most of the finish loss seems to be on the inside of the bell. See picture #5.
There is one dent, in the 2nd valve slide. See pictures, especially #4.
Both tuning slides move freely. The valve slides do not move freely and I have not tried to pull them.
The Model Number (86A) is stamped clearly on the lead pipe. I will try to get a picture if requested by a serious potential buyer. For the right buyer I will agree to a zoom call and I will play it for you.
