    Description

The symbolic tradition of magatama in jewelry dates as far back as 1000 BC and can be found in early Japanese pieces. In Japanese mythology, magatama were exchanged among the gods and used by the sun goddess Amaterasu to create other deities. Today, they are considered to have ceremonial significance and serve as an amulet to protect the wearer. Magatamas can be worn simply on a cord or used a focal bead.
