    Description

If you're reading this you know who Louie Bellson is. But just in case and to give the great drummer, bandleader and composer his due, Duke Ellington called him the "world's greatest musician and Oscar Peterson said he was the "epitome of musical talent and a very gifted composer and arranger." So we know why Rogers wanted Bellson using and promoting their sticks in the 1960s.
This auction is for a lot of 12 pair of vintage Rogers Louie Bellson model drumsticks. Also included is the Rogers box the sticks were originally sent in to the music store. Three pair are in original clear plastic Rogers bags. One of the bags has a small hole, but not big enough for the sticks to fit through. Two pair are in bags that have larger holes and the sticks may have been removed at one time. The remaining three pair do not have plastic bags.
All appear to be unused. The box has one tag torn off but is included and shows some signs of decades long storage.
You will note that the sticks read "Louie Bellson Mode," Not "Model." That's apparently how all these were manufactured. I assume that based on the great write up at the Bopworks Drumsticks Blog on this model. It is one of the few things I can find on the web about the Bellson model Rogers sticks. Bopworks says Bellson was a Rogers endorser from 1959 to 1973.
Here's what Bopworks says about these amazing sticks:
"The Bellson stick measures 15 7/8" with a diameter of .502" It features a pronounced olive bead tip and a moderate taper starting 2/3 of the way from the butt end. Weight on each stick is 34 grams and 41 grams respectively.* The Rogers catalog has the length description a bit longer, but we're not always dealing with absolutes.Personally, I kind of like the small style of the Rogers printing simply because it allows us to pay attention to the stick visual instead of giant lettering and logos. Another era, I suppose."
